Bawinanga Homelands Aboriginal Corporation (BHAC) is a large, community controlled organisation delivering essential services and running diverse enterprises across the Maningrida region. Our work supports housing, civil works, essential services, ranger programs, arts and culture, retail, fuel, employment services and more.

We are now seeking a capable and motivated Finance Officer to join our Finance Team.
About the Role
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Finance Officer plays a key hands on role in the day to day financial operations of BHAC. This position is responsible for processing and reconciling accounts payable and receivable, supporting grant and customer invoicing, and maintaining accurate financial records across a large and diverse organisation.
You’ll work closely with internal teams, suppliers, customers and funding bodies, helping ensure strong financial controls and timely reporting.

You’ll work closely with internal teams, suppliers, customers and funding bodies, helping ensure strong financial controls and timely reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable using Xero
- Ensure all purchases comply with procurement processes, financial delegations, and approved purchase orders
- Raise customer, grant funder invoices, and follow up debtor collections
- Maintain accurate records of grant milestone payments
- Prepare month end reconciliations, including AP, AR, bank, and petty cash
- Process accruals, internal allocation journals and maintain finance registers
- Respond to finance related queries from staff, suppliers, and customers
- Provide cover for other finance functions during staff absences, including payroll
- Contribute as an active member of the BHAC team
About You

Essential Criteria
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in accounts payable and accounts receivable
- General ledger and financial accounting experience
- Strong understanding of credit control processes
- Excellent organisational and administration skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Xero and ApprovalMax
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including remote First Nations communities
- National Police Clearance
Desirable
- Experience working in remote communities
- Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and community controlled organisations
- Experience in the not for profit or community development sector
- Experience with ELMO, Budgetly and/or payroll processing
Qualifications
- Certificate IV in Accounting, Business, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience or willingness to obtain)
