The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Associate Producer to contribute to the planning and delivery of its commercial performance program. This is a key administration position within the MSO Presents team, offering the opportunity to support a dynamic schedule of concerts and events that reflect MSO’s artistic ambitions and commitment to innovation, inclusion, and audience engagement.

Working under the guidance of the Executive Producer, the Associate Producer plays a central role in coordinating production logistics, liaising with artists and stakeholders, and supporting the development of projects from concept through to delivery. The position is suited to a proactive admin professional with a passion for orchestral music, a collaborative working style, and the ability to manage complex production requirements in a live performance environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Executive Producer with administration tasks of the MSO Presents team, project development, feasibility planning, and business case preparation
  • Coordinate production logistics, including rehearsal schedules, venue and technical requirements, and backstage operations
  • Liaise with internal teams, artists, agents, and rights holders to ensure seamless event delivery
  • Draft and manage contracts and project documentation, and maintain accurate records
  • Monitor budgets, track costs, and contribute to financial reporting
  • Attend rehearsals and performances as required to ensure delivery aligns with MSO’s standards
  • Promote safe work practices and support MSO’s values of innovation, collaboration, respect, and diversity

What You’ll Bring

  • A tertiary qualification in Arts Management, Music, Event Production, Creative Industries, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated experience supporting live music or performing arts productions, ideally in an orchestral or similar environment
  • Familiarity with complex production formats, including amplified and multimedia events or film-in-concert performances
  • Experience in managing rehearsal logistics, production schedules, and backstage coordination
  • Understanding of copyright, licensing, and artist engagement processes
  • Strong organisational, administration and time management skills, with high attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to liaise professionally across a range of stakeholders
  • Confidence working under pressure and adapting to the evolving demands of live events
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with production systems such as ArtsVision, Artifax, or Asana will be viewed favourably
  • An appreciation of orchestral music and enthusiasm for delivering meaningful audience experiences
