The BelRose Group has been exclusively engaged by Bawinanga Homelands Aboriginal Corporation (BHAC) to recruit an experienced and community-minded People & Culture Officer. About the organisation
Bawinanga Homelands Aboriginal Corporation is a well-established community-controlled organisation based in Maningrida, Arnhem Land, with a corporate office in Darwin. For over forty years, BHAC has delivered essential services, employment programs and enterprise support to improve the wellbeing and independence of Aboriginal people across the region. The organisation is guided by strong cultural values, respect for Country and the vision of safe, proud people connected through songlines and shared purpose.

About the role
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the People & Culture Officer will coordinate the day-to-day operations of the organisation’s People & Culture function. The role provides professional advice and practical support to managers and employees across all stages of the employee lifecycle, helping to ensure a compliant, culturally respectful and supportive workplace.

We are looking for someone who works with empathy and respect and values a positive workplace culture. They balance kindness and a sense of humour with clear processes, accurate records and accountability.

This position will suit someone who enjoys balancing hands-on administrative work with meaningful engagement across diverse teams. Regular travel to Maningrida is required.

Key responsibilities
  • Coordinate and deliver People & Culture services and support across the organisation
  • Provide guidance to managers and employees on employment conditions, conduct, performance and wellbeing matters
  • Administer policies, procedures and employment documentation to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and agreements
  • Support end-to-end recruitment, onboarding and induction processes
  • Maintain workforce data, reporting and records to support operational decision-making
  • Coordinate training, development and performance review activities
  • Support initiatives that promote a respectful, inclusive and culturally safe workplace
About you
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
  • Qualifications or demonstrated experience in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field
  • Experience in a generalist or administrative HR role
  • A collaborative and understanding approach with a sense of humour and innate kindness
  • Sound knowledge of the Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards and Modern Awards
  • Strong organisational and communication skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Proven ability to handle confidential matters with discretion and cultural awareness
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR systems
  • A current NT Ochre Card (or ability to obtain), satisfactory National Police Check and current NT Driver’s Licence
  • Experience in a community-controlled or remote context will be well regarded
